Motor Vehicle Lock Outs As automobile manufacturers install better theft deterrent systems in their products, it is becoming increasingly difficult for the police to unlock a car. The police department will only attempt to unlock vehicles for residents of Oakbrook Terrace. All others are referred to call a local service station or locksmith of their choice. The police department does not assume any liability for damages caused in our attempt to unlock a motor vehicle, and requires the owner to sign a waiver indemnifying the City and the Police Department from any damages. Site Security Surveys The police department will provide a free security survey of any business or residence in Oakbrook Terrace upon request. To set up an appointment call the Administrative offices at 941-8320 and ask for either Sgt. DiPompeo or Deputy Chief Kolberg. Applications are processed by the Illinois State Police for a nominal fee. Application forms are available free at the police department during normal business hours. Gun Locks The police department, in cooperation with Lieutenant Governor Corinne Wood, offers free gun locks to residents for their firearms. Project Homesafe promotes safe and responsible firearm ownership and storage. Locks may be picked up at the police station during regular business hours. Business Keyholder Lists Owners of businesses in Oakbrook Terrace are required to provide after hours keyholder information to the police department as a condition of receiving a business license. This information is used by the police should it be necessary to contact a representative of the business after business hours (examples include fires, break-ins, alarms). Police Patches Since the publishing of this web page we have received numerous requests from individuals requesting police shoulder patches for their collections. The shoulder patch of the Oakbrook Terrace Police Department is an official part of the uniform. As such we will only send a patch to another police department for display purposes when requested on official letterhead by that agency. In the spirit of the fraternal nature of law enforcement, we ask that your agency include it's patch in the request. This register can be inspected by anyone. To view the register, please call the Detective Division at 941-8320 to make an appointment.
